My Favourite Apps: MyFitnessPal

I’M FINALLY BACK ON TRACK.

It’s been a crazy past few weeks and I’ve had a HUGE setback but it’s back to focusing on getting healthy and fit!

I began using the health and fitness app MyFitnessPal. It is free with in app purchases that allows you to track your calories, water consumption, weight progress and more.  I use it to track my intake of calories and find nutritional information.

This app is very simple to use. It takes you through signing up, inputting foods/meals, and recording workouts. The MyFitnessPal data base has almost every kind of food and workout possible. If it doesn’t and you have the information handy (i.e. nutrition label or results from a heart rate monitor) and you have the option of scanning bar codes or filling in a quick and easy form to record your own.

Using MyFitnessPal helped me learn which foods are healthy and highly nutritious. The great thing about this app is that you can also check the nutrition information about foods from restaurants and believe me you will be surprised about how much sugar and salt are in certain foods! There were many times I chose the “healthier” option, but it was not too far from the others on the menu.

Although this app is simple to use, remember it’s a great guide to keep track of how you do but isn’t 100% accurate. For example, a medium apple could range anywhere from  50-70 calories and can have different amounts of sugar and carbs because of the type of apple and size. MyFitnessPal gives you a general idea, so don’t be too dependent and feel the need to enter EVERY SINGLE detail, but use it as a guide so you have a general idea of what kinds of things you should eat and avoid. I decided to use it for a a few weeks to get into the habit of watching what I eat, and use it only when I’m curious about how I ate a certain day or need to know the nutritional facts for something I’m debating on trying.

If you want to join, you can sign up on the app or here: www.myfitnesspal.com/ and add me! My user name is NabzStar (don’t ask I made this a long time ago)!

It really is an eye opener! I had no idea I was eating all these “healthy” things only to realize it wasn’t helping at all…
